The first experiment
Calorie, BMI and life-expectancy calculators were the beginning: small tools designed to make a personal website immediately useful.
LevelUpLife did not begin as a Life OS. It started with a much smaller question: can a self-built website calculate useful personal results and present them clearly? The first calculators were an experiment — and at the same time the starting point for everything that followed.
This early monthly retrospective was reconstructed later from the roadmap and the later state of the project. The Git history available today does not fully cover this early phase, so the text describes the traceable product development rather than a day-by-day chronology.
Three calculators instead of agrand product vision
Calorie needs, BMI and life expectancy were concrete, manageable problems. Inputs in, understandable result out. That simplicity made them a good starting point for a first independent web project.
There was no shared profile yet, no quests and no character. The features were the focus, and each essentially answered its own question.
Results should beimmediately understandable
Even with simple calculators, the question arose of how numbers need to be presented to become more than an output on a screen. Structure, explanations and the first shared website interface therefore quickly became part of the experiment.
That unintentionally created a pattern that became increasingly important later: data is only useful when users understand what they can do with it.
There was no grand Life OS at the beginning — only an attempt to build something genuinely useful with a personal website.
The experiment creates anew question
Once several personal calculators existed side by side, the next question was obvious: why are these pieces of information separate? Could they not together tell something about a person and their development?
From exactly that question grew the idea of a profile in the following months, and eventually a system that brings more of real life together.
